Let's Meet

Team SPIF's

Coach:

Dave Buck

Coach Dave Buck of Team SPIF
The Coach started riding long
distance events in 1989
with the 169 mile ODRAM, or
One Day Ride Across Michigan
and was the 16th rider to
complete the journey that year.
In 1990 he placed 2nd
in the masters division
at the 12 Hour
Challenge By The Bay
with 181 miles.
In 1992
at The Wolverine 200,
a 24 hour challenge ride,
he rode 286 miles.
Coach Dave Buck was
then named the
1992 U.M.C.A.
N.P.C. (National Points
Championship)
State Leader for
Michigan.
In 1993 he placed
seventh in his age  group
with 253 miles at the
National 24 Hr Challenge
in Grand Rapids.
He then made the 1993 UMCA's
(Ultra Marathon Cycling Association)
WHO'S WHO list for that year.

These honors were based on
annual mileage in events
of at least 100 miles.
Another part of that 1993 mileage
was for taking second place in the
350 mile "Beat the Boats"
Port Huron to Macinac Race.

This race is run RAAM style
- no drafting - open roads -
and a crew follows right behind
you in a vehicle to support
and protect you from traffic.
This picture was taken
by the crew just as he was
about to finish the race
at the base of the
Macinac bridge.
Coach Dave Buck of Team SPIF The Coach and Captain
placed 2nd in Father-Son
combined mileage one year
at the National 24 Hr Challenge.
(we'll post the year after
we research it in the
SPIF Archives)
More of the Coach.
